No Win, No Gong

"Chippy's Independence Day" premiered at the Loft Cinema's First Friday Shorts and neither won nor lost.  Failure was an option since it went 2:40 past Gong eligibility and had nary a line of dialogue, just a rodent gathering nuts for storage.  It was the first time I'd seen the audience use applause to fight the shouts for the Gong (which were many).  Yes, Cuteness enabled survival.  Emcee Max Cannon (cartoonist of Red Meat fame) expressed his surprise that it didn't place better at the end, but I knew the drunk chef in "Cooking Parrotfish with Eze" was going to steal the audience's short attention span.  On to the next movie... and photo shoots.

Lisa the Biker Chick

My bestie Lisa the Biker Chick has endured some tough times since her motorcycle accident a few years ago.  Her injuries and the medications to treat them led to weight gain, a dependency on the narcotics to cope with the pain, and a bout of pneumonia, Now, after several surgeries and a determination to free herself from prescription painkillers, Lisa has bounced back.

I was surprised when she agreed to a photo shoot for my DigiPhoto class assignment... even more surprised when I saw she was back down to her Hot Biker Chick Figure.

I'm sure her Boyfriend is even happier for her.

Her girlfriend Sascha, too.

Chippy's Independence Day

Day after day, I watch the chippy* slaving away for the Man... or rather some Bitch Chippy back at the hole with a rolling pin and a wagging finger. Always hauling peanuts for storage, never enjoying one. Today, with the Flag of the United States of America proudly flying on Independence Day, the chippy cracked open a few cold ones and enjoyed the sweet taste of Freedom on this most awesome of Holidays.

* I'm beginning to think this is really the Beta chippy due to his/her propensity to carry only one peanut at a time.

The world lost the great Doc Watson today. My best friend Alan introduced me to his music over 30 years ago as "Chief" breezed through his German Basic Course and I struggled through Basic Korean.

Chief and his wife Theta lost one of their little furry buddies this week, so I'll raise a toast to Doc in the Great Up Yonder and to Missy finding a warm sunny spot down on Piddler's Green.

Meet Spenser

I jaunted up to Phoenix this weekend to blow off my homework and hang out at Jon's and was surprised to see an addition to his family, Spenser (aka Tiny Pickle).

Spenser is a recovering canine parvovirus patient, so he'll fill out as he gets better. His feet are at least as big as Brodie's; Jon estimates he'll be bigger than The Uranium Dog (he's that dense). I've noticed Brodie is much less of an attention hound now that he's got a little buddy following him around.
