New Arizona Gun Laws!

The employee protection/parking lot law requires employers to allow the lawful storage of firearm(s) in employees’ locked motor vehicles while they are at work. Employers are not allowed to ban the storage of firearms in vehicles unless they offer an alternate location to park immediately adjacent to the standard parking area.

Also effective today, concealed carry permit holders can carry a concealed firearm for self-defense while in an establishment that serves on site alcoholic beverages as long as they are not consuming alcohol. A restaurant or bar can ban possession by posting a sign next to the liquor license. It is important to note that posting the sign at the entrance of an establishment is not sufficient and one is legally protected to enter the premises and see if the sign is posted in the proper place next to the liquor license. If it is not, the establishment is not in compliance with the law and you may remain inside even if a sign is posted at the entrance. It is important for gun owners to politely let restaurant owners know you prefer to patronize those restaurants who do not post their premises.

A new law allows for a concealed carry permit holder to “display” their weapon to de-escalate what would otherwise be a violent altercation. It has been designed to stop problems in the past where the passive display of a firearm was considered brandishing and not a means of self defense. It will prevent law abiding citizens from violating the law when lethal force is not required to prevent a violent incident. It is important to note that this law does not allow for you to remove your handgun from its holster to intimidate another individual or gain leverage on a situation.

Remembrance

September 2nd was the anniversary of the loss of C-130 #60538 and it's crew of 17 airmen over Soviet Armenia. Yesterday, the Freedom Through Vigilance Association held its annual Remembrance Ceremony for all intelligence professionals lost in the line of duty. The ceremony took place in front of AFISRA Headquarters in San Antonio TX.

Trying Something Different

Since Jon talked me into doing the subgun match at Rio Salado at the end of next month, I'll probably shoot the Hebrewm at the Oct. Cactus Match instead of this month. Since the weather's been so nice, I still want to shoot eight stages but don't want to shoot pistol-only, because, hey, I'm basically stuck in C Class for the rest of my life. I considered my problems with the Rock River 9-AR and wondered if it was the mag block causing all the problems. That's when I remembered I had a different mag block I'd been saving for my 9-AR SBR Build! This other block takes my Uzi mags instead of the Colt format ones, so I'll drive out into the desert tomorrow and shoot a few mags through to see how she likes them!

And just so you don't go calling me a gamer, I'm shooting .308 in the two rifle/pistol stages. The third Sunday Multi-Gun Fun Match doesn't accrue prize points.

Late Night FaceBook Prose

Deep fog outside, Monterey, 10:30 PM on a Friday night, muting the distant sounds, but somehow the sea lion barks are carrying through, along with the odd deep rumble of revving engines…maybe street racers, certainly muscle cars. I picture sea lions... laying upright in driver seats in excessively modified Japanese vehicles, shouting epithets at their challengers through open windows, betting pink slips on tuna stakes.

Fly

Whenever I'm tempted to think of all of the French as unwashed, cheese-eating surrender monkeys, I watch this video. Dig the guy flying IFR (I Follow Roads). The soundtrack is addictive too. (I posted this in my first year of blogging. I don't think my three readers from back then will mind.)

Not Just a Camera Operator

Since I'm supplying one of the more dangerous props (namely a .308 Winchester Model 70 Police Sniper rifle) to one of our horror-flick productions, our Film Professor has appointed me Armorer for our production company. I'll be riding herd over all of our gun props and ensuring the actors don't look like doofuses while wielding them on camera. I don't know yet whether the chainsaw falls under my purview.

Ugh

While all the cool gunbloggers are in Reno NV for GunBlogger Rendezvous IV, I got to wait around for a roofing repair guy to come look at my roof and say, "Yup, it needs fixing!  We'll get an estimate to ya in 3-to-5 business days."  Did I mention it's the rainy season here?

Maybe I can get in some Gun Fun this weekend....

The Big Red One

Not the Army's 1st Division... The Lamborghini of Video Cameras, the RED One. Tuesday, the Professor announced the "above line" personnel and crew placements for our little Advanced Cinematography production company... and I got what I wanted -- Camera Operator! I'm really stoked, because the school is renting a RED One camera and I get to receive training on it, plus operate it during two, possibly three, productions!

My other two choices were Casting Director and Script Supervisor. I'll probably take this class again just for the experience, so I can try other positions then.

Bad Start to a Holiday Weekend

I knew things were gonna suck when I saw the helicopter just up ahead in its landing spiral over I-10 a half mile north of the Rita Road exit. Apparently it was a MedEvac dust-off for an auto accident.  The cops and paramedics must have gotten there rather quickly because I wasn't that far from the commotion by the time traffic slowed to a dead stop.

Hurray for eye candy!   The pretty redhead in the blue car later decided to hang a U-Turn on the median cross-over strip just ahead.

I hope the accident victim(s) in the crunched up car (right) survived.

Your intrepid traffic reporter signing off.  Have a good holiday!
