2010 AZ State Sub-Gun Championship

Jon (semi-auto 9-mm AR) and I (full-auto Uzi) joined Big Bob (Jon's Kel-Tec Sub2000) in his first major match outside the Cactus Fun Matches; little did we know he'd do better than either of us. This year's match followed a movie theme, with such stages as "Shoot, I Gotta Find Bubba!" and "Say Hello to my Little Friend!" Here's one of our squad-mates ripping through "Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammo:"

I was haunted by underpowered ammo that worked okay during test-firing, contributing to my 51st (Last) Place Finish. It didn't help that my hip-shooting (required for the stage shown) was a tad low.

Jon was on pace for a good finish in the Semi-Auto Division until his ND won him a trip to the Dairy Queen.

The Match Director allowed me to finish the match with Jon's semi-auto gun. On the other hip-shooting stage ("Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammo") I put 5 out of 7 rounds on the last, far target.

Congrats to our Primary Range Officer, Richard Bhella, who was the Match Winner, shooting in the Modern Open Division.

Cactus Halloween Match

I joined Jon, The Bigger Bob, Piter, Ron, and Mike to enjoy Jon's Halloween Fun Match last weekend. Since Mike was a new (left-handed!) shooter borrowing Jon's guns for the first time, I'm saving his video for private viewing.

Halloween Fun Match

I only shot two out of four stages with the Hebrewm before quitting in frustration. I suspect the fat 130-grain Fiocchi's weren't the best fodder, since the problem was incomplete feeding.

I shot the other four stages with my Heavy Metal gear, except for the Colt .45 I'd left sitting on my coffee table at home. Hooray for Jon's Gun Shop! He lent me his tricked out Para, which I fed mags jammed to capacity... screw that 10-round crap!

Jon, who produced the match, crushed the crowd in Riotgun and placed 2nd in Carbine.

Stage Five was a 30-second "Art Contest," sponsored by Jon, who provided a goody bucket complete with ammo and candy. Terry and Linda, Match King and Stat Queen, respectively, judged based on artistic quality and symmetry. Bob won with this edgy submission.

These other efforts won't show up taped to Mom's fridge any time soon.

YouTube Fail

Usually YouTube offers up related videos following the feature content. Apparently, one of my most popular (and commented on) vids of Jon running his snubbie through a multi-gun match generated this match.

I guess a man feeding a baby revo full-house defense loads is relevant to breastfeeding a baby in YouTube World.

Steam Punk Sarah

Of all the things I've lost,

I miss my mind the most.
-- Mark Twain

After letting my car sit in the garage for two months because I couldn't remember where I hid the keys (was too lazy to reopen the safe before leaving on vacation), I found them in the zippered pocket of the collapsible cooler I'd taken along on the trip. The battery of the Stang was drained by the time I found them.

Now I've been wracking my brain trying to remember where I stashed my blank-firing .45 Auto and a plastic jar full of 8-mm blanks. In the process of digging through the Hacienda clutter looking for them, I found five boxes of managed-recoil 12 ga. slugs I'd forgotten about.

It's been time for a major house-cleaning for about three years....

Update: Things are looking up! Cleaned off a pile of papers on my desk and found two Amazon gift certificates I'd misplaced. I promptly used them to stuff my prop box some more. Can't spend such a windfall on anything practical, ya know?
