Thanks for Serving!
Many of my bag-wearing friends visited this little garden spot, Shemya Island AK, now home of Eareckson Air Station.
Many thanks to all you veterans out there!

I knew that picture looked familiar. I spent 6 years sitting alert out there for the Cobra Ball and Cobra Eye aircraft...two weeks out, then two weeks back at Eielson.

That's gotta be the loneliest place on earth.
PS
After I typed this, I scrolled down to the WV and it was "rearmot".
Hope nobody did ;)

After serving in the National Guard for a few years I joined the regular Air Force. I was stationed in California for more than 2-1/2 years. I got so bored I went and volunteered for "Remote Duty". I wanted to go somewhere, see the world, have a little adventure. I got the remote assignment. I was stationed on an island where the only regular US military were the 20 or so guys in my squadron.
The island was Mallorca. It's a Spanish island in the Mediterranean and is a vacation island for all of Europe. My remote duty was 15 months of lounging on the beaches and partying in the nightclubs.
