I was a REMF, USAF type my entire uniformed career, so I'm no expert. But don't you load those things with the pointy end facing up?

So how does one extract the round? The tube's too small to reach in, and I don't think that turning the tube upside down and shaking it until the round falls out is such a good idea...

Extraction of the round is done by:
Cupping your hands over the front of the tube and leaving a small hole for the nose of the round.
Someone else must tip the tube slowly and carefully until the round slides out. Pray.
Catch the round as it exits. It is serious fun.

They taught us to put out thumbs over the barrel and tip it up. that way if it went off all you'd lose was your thumbs. Most of the guys i knew said they used either thier pinkys or middle fingers. They liked thier thumbs right where they were.
