I'd like to think they are the dirty socialist rats abandoning a sinking Obama far-left platform, but Dodd was doomed anyways (for being more than just an average crook). Better news is the handful of Democrat blue dogs 'retiring' (the TN 6th District, where I live, is up for grabs since Bart Gordon (D) declined to run again).
We'll know a bit more January 19, when Massholes elect a new Senator; if Brown (R) gets 43% or better of the vote, that's a great sign of things changing. If he actually wins, I think Hell immediately freezes over (and Ted Kennedy spins so hard in his grave that the Earth shifts on it's axis).
Oh, and you can send John McCain (Rino) packing in November, right? Thanks! in advance for that bit of loose-end tying!

Men like that don't give up power willingly. Dodd is retiring because his other choice is indictment. Mark my words, it's a back room deal.

I suspect it's mostly a case of 'Take the money and run'. I think they know the next few elections are not going their way.
