KaBOOM Update
We inspected the uppers head spacing and chamber. They're going to build me a new upper and bill Wolf for it.
The result from our inspection show the barrel is still head space correctly and the chamber is to spec. The case at the base of the cartridge gave way around the primer.
This could have been caused by a overpressured round or the cartridge case many have been fatigued / cracked during manufacturing processes.

time for reloading, no? A nice progressive press might be on your Christmas list?

Hey, I diagnosed it without even looking at it. As a matter of fact, I even guessed the brand of ammunition before I'd even read that far.
I have had the following conversation more times than I can remember:
"My AR blew up."
"Shooting Wolf ammo?"
"Yeah. How'd you know?"
"Lucky guess."

Congratulations on the new upper.
Going to stick to Winchester White Box from now on? And what about the lower? Is it still functional?

Actually, Wolf USA has been very good about replacing defective ammunition, and firearms damaged because of it.
Obviously, they'll want to verify; but I know of two other cases where similar incidents occurred, and they made good both times.

Interesting - my experience with Wolf is that is is consistently lower performance (less noise, less kick) than the US-masde stuff, but that has strictly been pistol ammo. Stuff leaves powder marks on the muzzle like I shot it all afternoon, tho..

I use Wolf almost exclusively and have never had a problem w/ it. I use their 7.62 for my AK and NDM and their .45 for my RIA 1911.

Hmmm ... comparison test:
Wolf ammo vs. handloads with Swiss FFFg black powder.
Betcha the Swiss causes less fouling ...

That's not a bad deal at all.
How long till you get the upper back, and was the lower and beta mag salvagable?

The wait for a POF upper has always been depressingly long. I still need to function test the lower; it seats a magazine fine. I've got a replacement feed clip on order from BetaCo.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - waiting on a gun is like waiting for Christmas. :(
