For drama majors it's not what you do or the actual thing you have or hold, but what it/that implies in the scene.
So churches were set on fire for fun and some excitement, and to raise awareness of a poor drama major's plight in an un-fun and un-exciting world-scene - and the gun in this guy's mouth doesn't represent *just* a gun... Heh.
