I was getting ready to pull the pin back in mid summer of 1990 when I saw waves of armored vehicles coming back from their dessert tan paint jobs. Something like the picture you posted. Needless to say, the rumors were true, dessert shield was fixing to begin, and dammitall but my sorry ass was headed to the sandbox before I could blink an eye.
As an oldtimer who hopped aboard many an M60 it took a while for me to warm to the change in color. Then again, as long as they were still armored enough to duck behind it didn't matter now did it.
