Are you sure the lower plant is agave? The reason I ask is because it dosen't look like it to me. I could and am probably wrong, just saying. Anyway, I have seen a plants that look just like that. Unfortunately botany is not my strong suit. I am curious though and shall have a look around...

Agave/Aloe...something like that. I'm pretty sure...it's kinda dried up over the winter when I slowed down the watering, and there are some weeds growing out of it too.

That looks like the flower spike of an agave to me. If so, it is the last hurrah of that particular plant. New shoots may survive around the edges however. Enjoy the display.

Agave, yucca, whatever. It has reached the end of its growth cycle and is blooming. After that its all over.
Except for the next generation, of course. I've got four doing the same outside my office window.
