Buried Treasure!

I didn't play the Buy Ammo game this week because I've got truck tires and another 2400 miles of gas to pay for, plus refrigerator repair bills (still haven't called; activated the mini-fridge), and I'll probably dish out some smackers to a landscaper soon. Besides that, I bought 200 rounds of 9mm WWB in the Lehighton WalMart. That'll keep the 9AR and Glock19 happy for a while. (The case of Wolf is reserved for the Uzi now.)

Checking up on my long gun ammo supply, I noticed I had plenty of surplus 7.62 and Wolf 5.56...but after three stuck Wolf cases in my new rifle, I'd promised to put BoG2 on a brass-only diet. Rooting around, I came up with only 100 rounds of .223 (some Remmy Green Box dating back before I even owned an AR). After checking my online sources and finding only expensive Wolf brass and underpowered Bosnian M855/ss109 available in bulk, I rummaged deeper into the hermit cave. Score! Okay, the battlepack of British Aerospace 5.56 goes back into the ammo cabinet (along with a box or two of soft-tips), but I turned up 360 rounds of Guatemalan 5.56!! It's like Christmas!

This discovery ought to get me through the Superstition 3-Gun next year, at which time I'll probably join Jon in a switch toward the .30 Thumpers again.

If I'm ever going to try that Four-Day Front Sight course (bringing 600 rounds), I'll have to find a new cheap source or take the Wolf-lovin' Bushie along.

By a Jewelry Blogger, even! Oh, the humanity! Well, I'm in enough trouble with her already, so I better play along....

The rules:

1. You have to post these rules before you give the facts.

2. Players, you must list one fact that is somehow relevant to your life for each letter of your middle name.

3. If you don’t have a middle name, use the middle name you would have liked to have had.

4. When you are tagged you need to write your own blog-post containing your own middle name game facts. At the end of your blog-post, you need to choose one person for each letter of your middle name to tag.

5. Don’t forget to leave them a comment telling them they’re tagged, and to read your blog.

Well, my middle name is Edward, but nobody calls anybody Edward, right?

E -- Easy
D -- Dull

Short and sweet, just like me! Heh. Now I only need to annoy two bloggers. Methinx I'll visit my Lil Sister's MySpace page and give her the news. And give Desert Cat something to do....

Aw, Sh*t!

How many times have we said/heard that in a match?

By the time I realized that Jon was "air gunning" mighty low prior to shooting "Another One, Terry," the RO was starting the stage... do I yell something??? Great friend that I am, I gritted my teeth and hoped that Jon had a better angle than I did. Oops.

Jon and Karma got me back on the same stage when I took a brain vacation after shooting the pistol part of the two-gun scenario. My uttered epithet was a tad shorter but no less colorful vulgar. Jon would have no other miscues, but the other "Terry" stage would hand me some penalties. Big Bob rounded out our trio... he's still too careful to make stupid mistakes, but careful takes a lot of time. His match film is almost a minute longer than mine; it remains to be seen whether my penalties will wipe away that minute.

Might try this next year

I MapQuested my road trip points for the first time last night and got a route more than 100 miles shorter than the I-10/20/30/40/81 route I've been taking for years. Might be worth trying next year.

August 3-Gun

I'd intended to take August off from stage designing (since I was going on vacation) but League Poobah Terry guilt-tripped me into submitting some (hence, some of the snarky stage names). Here are the stages as submitted:

Pistol - Start Position: Standing behind table, wrists above shoulders facing uprange. On start signal, draw and engage P1 through P12. All steel must fall.

Pistol/Shotgun - Start Position: Standing behind table, wrists above shoulders facing uprange. Loaded shotgun grounded on table.

On start signal, in any order engage left array with shotgun, right array with pistol. Ground weapons safely as appropriate. All steel must fall.

Pistol: Start Position: Standing in Box A, normal ready.

On start signal, draw and engage P1 and P2 and T1 through T7. From behind Table B, engage T8 and P3 through P8. Paper targets require two hits to neutralize, all steel must fall.
Pistol/Shotgun - Standing in Box A, normal ready.

On start signal, draw pistol and engage P1 and P2 and T1 through T7. From behind Table B, engage T8, safely ground pistol and with shotgun engage P3 through P8. Paper targets require two hits to neutralize, all steel must fall.

Pistol - Start position: Standing behind Table, palms on table.

On start signal, draw and engage T1 through T4 with left hand and T5 through T8 with right hand. Paper targets require two hits to neutralize.

Pistol/Rifle - Standing behind Table, palms on table. Unloaded rifle grounded on table.

On start signal, draw and engage T1 through T4 with left hand and T5 through T8 with right hand. With rifle and unsupported by table, engage T1 through T8 with two headshots each. Once the rifle is loaded, one procedural penalty will be assessed for each shot taken while shooter is in contact with table. Paper targets require two hits to neutralize.

Pistol - Start position: In Box A, normal ready.

On start signal, engage T1 through T3 from Box A. Engage T4 and T5 from behind charge line B. Engage T6 from behind charge line C. Each paper target requires two hits to neutralize.

Colt Enlisted Man's Model

Okay, so Colt never called it that...we think they should have. My friend Chief and I used to wonder why Colt named their shortened .45 the "Officers Model." Did the full-sized gat make their dainty hands look too small?

Chief dressed up his manly Colt 1991A1 with a set of US Air Force imitation-ivory grips. I don't know if the USAF ever issued a 1911 .45 to anybody, but it sure makes a nice commemorative piece for a colorful military career. He suggested getting a set for mine... since both of my single-stacks are unblued (one stainless, another to get NP3'd whenever I get around to it), I'd probably be better off getting something darker for contrast.

Lisa the Biker Chick sent me a QT flick of Lenny and Squiggy, but despite downloading the QT7, it doesn't show the video (usually just junk including images in my memory buffer). I wanna see if it displays in the brand new Blogger video thingee. The "drugs" comment refers to Lisa's talent for having calm critters... Jasmine and Victoria were spooky like that.

Update: Yay! It works here!

Yup, the fridge is dying (again) but the a/c is holding up okay. Gotta run around today to liquidate some cash, clean up some monsoon weeds and the ferret room. I pick up the weasels tomorrow night.

MGEN Doyle Larson, RIP

http://www.af.mil/bios/bio.asp?bioID=6146

http://www.dot.state.mn.us/aero/aved/museum/halloffame/larson_doyle.htm

Freakin MAC computer! (I'm down in MD this weekend...I might fix this when I get back).

General Larson was MY first general...the first General of my first major duty command (Electronic Security Command back in '81) and the first General officer I'd ever met personally. He had created the SENSOR OLYMPICS technical competition and even hung a Silver Medal around my neck at one of their Awards Banquets (yeah, I was awesome, just ask me).

MGEN Doyle Larson started out as an enlisted Russian linguist and reached for the stars. _._

Awesome. Now let me tell you about my folks Whitewater investment opportunity! It's the least I can do in return.

I got the Ad up on my last night at home but Blogger outaged before I could get the blog updated.

We showed our Bro-in-law our little shooting spot (had to since the Beaver Run Rod & Gun Club unilaterally decided not to renew our memberships. We gave him the Safety Lessons (the Eddie Eagle one to be relayed to The Binker and The Four Rules for everybody) and after he warmed up to his Xmas revo, we let him try out my Glock 23 and Lil Bro's H&K .45 USP. The finale involved blasting a veggie can into shreds with BoG2. Good times.

I'm glad Lil Bro's phone doesn't take motion pics!

After I trimmed around the trees and stuff with the push mower, stopped for a slug of cold water and a moment in front of Mom's fan, I gave Lil Bro a break from the riding mower. La Hacienda Del Madre has lawn out the yin-yang and my younger sibling busts his hump every other weekend keeping Mom and the Township Yard Nazis happy. Last year, he replaced the Ford yard tractor with this little baby. Note the lack of a steering wheel....

"It's like driving a tank!" he says. Got lots more respect for Treadheads like Mostly Cajun now.... I got a large swath of yard and field done (zig-zaggy lines and all) when I got called in for a phone call. Hmmm. It's Lisa the Biker Chick...oh, no! Are the ferrets okay? Heh...she just checked my mailbox and found a letter from my own Neighborhood Yard Nazis...I've got weeds in my front yard! Yup...and they'll get worse in the monsoons before I get back.

Howdy!

Saturday, I dug up some of the sidewalk pavers to raise/level them so they wouldn't pool water at the bottom of the side porch steps. It rained later...and water still pooled there. At least the chipmunks are happy with the sidewalk. This one has a Republican Guard bunker outside Mom's front door.

Saturday night's rain slapped the humidity down nicely for a party at Mom's...did I mention Mom doesn't have central a/c? It's hard to imagine living without it, then I remember growing up without it, then living constantly in front of the fan in my off-base apartment during the Korean summer 'soons.
